PM Warns of “More Bloodshed” as Israel Approves Gaza City Control

Prime Minister Keir Starmer today condemned Israel’s decision to take control of Gaza City, calling the move “wrong” and warning it would lead to “more bloodshed.”

The Israeli war cabinet approved the operation overnight, though it falls short of fully occupying all of Gaza as previously discussed.

In a Downing Street statement, Starmer urged Benjamin Netanyahu to “reconsider immediately,” arguing the action “will do nothing to bring an end to this conflict or help secure hostage releases.”

The PM emphasized the worsening humanitarian crisis, with hostages held in “appalling conditions” by Hamas. He called for immediate de-escalation, demanding a ceasefire, increased humanitarian aid, and hostage releases.

Starmer reiterated that Hamas “can play no part in Gaza’s future” and must disarm, while stressing the need for a “negotiated solution” rather than military escalation.
