London’s Claridge’s Claims Third Place Among World’s Most Glamorous Hotels

Historic Art Deco Hotel Outranks Exotic Destinations in Global Luxury Rankings

A prestigious London hotel has secured its place among the world’s most glamorous accommodations, surpassing renowned destinations in the Maldives and Australia in a new international ranking.

Claridge’s, the iconic Mayfair establishment, earned third place on Robb Report’s list of the 50 greatest luxury hotels worldwide. The lifestyle magazine praised the venue as offering exceptional high-end hospitality for discerning travelers.

Two Centuries of Royal Heritage

Since opening in 1812, Claridge’s has cultivated an unrivaled reputation for hosting celebrities, royalty, and society’s elite. The five-star hotel, which Robb Report dubbed the “grande dame of the London hotel scene,” continues to embody timeless elegance while embracing contemporary innovation.

The hotel’s royal connections run deep, beginning when Queen Victoria visited with Prince Albert in the 1860s. This royal endorsement established a tradition that continues today, with the late Queen Elizabeth II regularly enjoying lunch at the establishment. Princess Diana and Prince Charles notably held their wedding reception there in 1981.

Celebrity Haven and Cultural Icon

Claridge’s guest list reads like a who’s who of entertainment, with notable stays by Mick Jagger and Lady Gaga among many other luminaries. The hotel’s appeal extends beyond accommodation, regularly collaborating with world-renowned establishments. In July, New York’s acclaimed restaurant and bar Dante brought their signature cocktails to Claridge’s for an exclusive month-long partnership.

Industry experts consistently praise the hotel’s sophisticated atmosphere. Cédric Reversade of Unique Properties and Events described the penthouse apartments as “so chic,” adding that guests feel as though “Princess Margaret is joining you for a gin and tonic.” Travel specialist Ashley Isaacs Ganz of Artisans of Leisure called it “my home away from home in London.”

Art Deco Excellence Meets Modern Luxury

Despite its centuries-old foundation, Claridge’s maintains relevance through continuous updates while preserving its character as what the hotel calls “an Art Deco masterpiece.” This balance between heritage and modernity has helped it compete successfully against properties in exotic locations with golden beaches and tropical climates.

Room rates begin at approximately £1,000 per night, reflecting the establishment’s premium positioning in the luxury hospitality market.

International Competition

Only two hotels ranked higher than Claridge’s in the global survey. Rosewood Amsterdam claimed the top spot, having opened just in May within the former Palace of Justice, offering 134 luxury rooms starting at $1,049 (£779) nightly. Second place went to Collegio alla Querce in Florence, Italy, a Renaissance-era property featuring three historic buildings with original hand-painted frescoes and countryside views, with rates beginning at $1,410 per night.

The recognition reinforces London’s position as a premier destination for luxury hospitality, with Claridge’s serving as a flagship example of British elegance and service excellence on the world stage.
