Sunny Deol Returns to Punjab for Lahore 1947’s Final Schedule; Release Moved to 2026

Aamir Khan’s ambitious production Lahore 1947 is entering its concluding phase of filming, with Sunny Deol set to return to the sets for the period drama’s final schedule. The film’s release has now been pushed to 2026, as the makers prioritize creative excellence over meeting earlier timelines.

According to a Mid-Day report, Deol will begin shooting the last leg of the Partition-era drama next week in Punjab. The 12-day schedule, commencing October 10, will see director Rajkumar Santoshi and the lead actor filming newly conceptualized sequences at authentic locations across the state. These additions come after Khan reportedly suggested revisions following the film’s first cut last November.

The upcoming schedule will feature only Deol, as his co-stars—including Preity Zinta and Shabana Azmi—have already wrapped their portions. Zinta completed her work in June, describing Lahore 1947 as “the toughest film” of her career in an emotional Instagram post where she thanked the film’s team, including Santoshi, Khan, Deol, Azmi, cinematographer Santosh Sivan, and composer A.R. Rahman.

Lahore 1947, which chronicles the human cost of India’s Partition, began principal photography in February 2024 with initial plans for a 2025 theatrical release. However, the creative team has collectively decided to extend the production timeline. A source close to the project explained that Khan, Deol, and Santoshi agreed that delivering a superior final product was more important than rushing to meet the original release date.

With post-production already underway, audiences can now expect the historical drama to hit theaters sometime in 2026.
