Saiyaara copied from Korean classic A Moment to Remember? Film’s writer Sankalp Sadanah breaks his silence.
Saiyaara, Mohit Suri’s romantic drama featuring newcomers Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, has taken the box office by storm, crossing the ₹500 crore mark worldwide and becoming a blockbuster sensation in 2025. Backed by soulful music and heartfelt storytelling, the film’s rise is remarkable—yet it hasn’t been without controversy.
Amidst the celebrations, accusations have surfaced that Saiyaara is plagiarised from the beloved Korean classic, A Moment to Remember. Social media has buzzed with side-by-side story comparisons, resulting in a heated debate. The film’s writer, Sankalp Sadanah, broke his silence in a recent interview, firmly denying the plagiarism allegations. He encouraged viewers to watch both films before passing judgment: “Honestly, so much has already been said about this. All I can say is — the Korean film is out there, and so is Saiyaara. Watch both and judge for yourself. You’ll be able to tell whether it’s inspired, a copy, or an original.” Sankalp revealed that Saiyaara was born out of an emotional conversation with Mohit Suri during a rainswept evening in Bandra, rather than from a conventional screenplay.

Despite the controversy, Saiyaara’s success is evident. Its soundtrack has dominated global music charts, and the chemistry between the lead actors has generated widespread acclaim. Both the director and composer, Tanishk Bagchi, have addressed other creative accusations, stating that similarities in music and storylines are often a coincidence, not intentional theft.
Saiyaara’s triumph at the box office is indisputable, and while debates on originality continue, its emotional resonance and audience reach have made it one of the landmark Bollywood films of the year.
