Renowned filmmaker Karan Johar has shared an introspective message with his followers, promising to return to the director’s chair in 2026 after a period of personal reflection. In a candid social media post, Johar stated that he has made a “promise to myself” to get back on set and tell stories in the style of “good old fashioned Hindi cinema.”

Johar described the past year as one of “internal revaluations, revelations and resolutions,” which has led him to a “2.0 version of my life.” He explained that he has gained clarity, choosing to “value what you truly have and feel for” while letting go of external pressures and the need to “please a bunch of people I don’t know.”

While his production house, Dharma Productions, has remained active—releasing films like Nadaaniyan, Aap Jaisa Koi, and Sarzameen for OTT platforms, as well as theatrical releases such as Kesari Chapter 2 and Dhadak 2—Johar’s post signals a desire to step back into a hands-on creative role. He emphasized that directing is his “happy space” and his “only calling in life,” a core part of his “DNA” that he no longer wants to run away from.
The post, which was filled with emotional honesty, has resonated with many in the film industry and among his fans. It suggests a rejuvenated focus on his craft and a return to the classic storytelling that has defined his illustrious career. Industry observers are now eagerly awaiting the projects he will choose to direct and how he will continue to shape Bollywood’s cinematic landscape in the coming years.
