Kangana Ranaut Calls Out ‘Impolite’ Male Bollywood Stars: “I Refused to Accept Their Disrespectful Behavior”

Kangana Ranaut has once again shed light on the challenging dynamics within Bollywood, revealing how she deliberately limited her collaborations with male actors due to what she describes as widespread unprofessional behavior in the industry.

In a candid interview with Hauterrfly, the actor-turned-politician explained that her career choices were significantly influenced by the conduct of her male counterparts, whom she characterizes as largely “badtameez” (impolite).

Standing Against Industry Norms

When questioned about inappropriate advances from male co-stars, Ranaut clarified that her concerns extended far beyond sexual misconduct. “I haven’t worked with many heroes, and my main concern was that these heroes were extremely impolite,” she stated during the interview.

The Queen actress detailed a pattern of disrespectful behavior that she refused to accept: chronic lateness on set, deliberate attempts to diminish the heroine’s status, systematic sidelining of female co-stars, and even petty power plays like assigning smaller vanity vans to actresses.

Facing Professional Consequences

Ranaut acknowledged that her refusal to comply with these industry practices came at a significant personal cost. “I faced considerable trouble because of this stance, including various cases filed against me. This happened because I wasn’t okay with these behaviors, while most other actresses accepted them. They wondered why I had so much pride.”

Her comments highlight the stark contrast between her approach and that of many other actresses who, according to Ranaut, tend to accept such treatment as part of the industry’s culture.

A Pattern of Speaking Out

This latest revelation adds to Ranaut’s long history of calling out Bollywood’s power structures and treatment of outsiders. Throughout her career, she has consistently positioned herself as someone willing to challenge the industry’s established hierarchies, often at the cost of professional relationships and opportunities. The interview underscores ongoing discussions about workplace dynamics in Bollywood, particularly regarding the treatment of female actors and the normalization of disrespectful behavior by those in positions of power.
