National Flood Crisis: Mass Evacuations and Emergency Response.

Over 174,000 residents relocated as Prime Minister leads coordinated disaster response

Pakistan faces a severe flooding crisis as authorities have successfully evacuated 174,074 people to safety amid widespread rescue operations throughout flood-stricken areas. The Prime Minister convened an emergency high-level meeting to assess the national flood emergency and coordinate relief efforts across affected regions.

Current Situation

Rescue teams continue their life-saving operations in districts devastated by River Sutlej flooding, with officials reporting no fatalities in these areas to date. Emergency evacuations are progressing near Lehri Bund in Narowal, where local communities are being moved to secure locations away from rising waters.

Power restoration efforts are underway in flood-damaged areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, while in Gilgit-Baltistan, a critical two-kilometer stretch of the National Highway remains underwater. Engineering teams are working around the clock to restore this vital transportation link.

River Systems Under Threat

Water levels have reached dangerous heights at multiple monitoring points, including Ganda Singh Wala and Sulemanki along the River Ravi, as well as at Jassar and Marala stations. The situation at Nala Dek has been classified as particularly severe, requiring immediate attention from emergency responders.

Weather Warnings

Meteorological forecasts predict additional heavy rainfall across the Lahore, Gujranwala, and Rawalpindi divisions. Similar conditions are expected in portions of Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, potentially exacerbating the current flood situation.

Government Response

The Prime Minister has ordered an intensification of rescue operations in River Sutlej-affected districts, emphasizing the urgent need to evacuate remaining stranded individuals. Priority has been placed on ensuring rapid distribution of essential supplies including food, medical supplies, and temporary shelter materials to impacted communities.

To strengthen coordination efforts, the Prime Minister has directed the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) chairman to maintain continuous communication with all relevant disaster management agencies, ensuring a unified response to this national emergency.
