During his official visit to the UK, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met King Charles III at Sandringham House, presenting him with a sapling of Davidia involucrata ‘Sonoma’, also known as the Sonoma dove or handkerchief tree. The gift was part of Modi’s ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative, encouraging tree planting in tribute to mothers. The Royal Family shared that the tree will be planted this autumn. Known for its striking white bracts, the ‘Sonoma’ variety blooms within two to three years. Modi and the King also discussed strengthening India-UK relations and potential collaborations in environmental and bilateral initiatives.
