In a landmark move, President Emmanuel Macron announced that France will formally recognise the State of Palestine at the UN General Assembly in September. Sharing the news on X and Instagram, Macron said the decision reflects France’s historic commitment to peace in the Middle East. With this step, Palestine will now be recognised by 142 countries, making France the most influential European nation to do so. Macron stressed the urgency of ending the Gaza conflict and called for a viable, demilitarised Palestinian state that also recognises Israel—aiming for lasting regional stability and mutual security.
