After navigating the certification process, Kangana Ranaut’s ambitious political drama Emergency has secured its censor certificate, paving the way for its theatrical debut.
The much-awaited biographical film, which sees Ranaut both starring in and helming the director’s chair, portrays one of India’s most controversial political figures—former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The project has generated considerable attention since its announcement, with audiences eager to witness Ranaut’s interpretation of this pivotal historical era.

Taking to social media to share the development, Ranaut expressed gratitude to her supporters: “We are glad to announce we have received the censor certificate for our movie Emergency. We will be announcing the release date soon. Thank you for your patience and support.”
The film’s production team is now finalizing plans for its theatrical launch, with an official release date expected to be revealed in the coming days.

Based on the trailer unveiled in August, Emergency promises to explore the turbulent period of the 1975-1977 Emergency—a defining and contentious chapter in Indian democracy when civil liberties were suspended under Gandhi’s administration.
Beyond Ranaut’s central performance, the film boasts an impressive ensemble cast including veteran actor Anupam Kher, Mahima Chaudhary, Milind Soman, Shreyas Talpade, Vishak Nair, and features one of the final performances by the late Satish Kaushik.
Emergency is a joint production between Zee Studios and Ranaut’s own Manikarnika Films. The musical score has been composed by Sanchit Balhara and G V Prakash Kumar, while the screenplay and dialogues have been crafted by Ritesh Shah, adding further creative depth to this historical narrative.RetryClaude can make mistakes.
