Fawad Khan Returns to Bollywood After 8 Years: Pakistani Heartthrob Teams Up With Vaani Kapoor for London-Shot Rom-Com

Fawad Khan’s highly anticipated comeback to Indian cinema is officially underway. Nearly eight years after his last Bollywood appearance, the Pakistani star is reuniting with the industry alongside Vaani Kapoor for a romantic comedy set against the backdrop of London.

The film, tentatively titled Abir Gulal, is being produced by Vivek Agrawal—the force behind critically acclaimed projects including Queen, Udta Punjab, Super 30, and Netflix India’s breakout series Sacred Games. The entire production will be filmed in the United Kingdom through Eastwood Studios, the production house co-founded by Agrawal and Devang Dholakia.

London Schedule Extended Until November 10

According to a Mid-Day report, the story follows a London-based chef (Khan) and a traditional Indian girl (Kapoor) who arrives in the city for a visit. Two emotionally scarred individuals meet by chance and discover unexpected comfort in each other, eventually falling in love.

“The cast and crew will be shooting across London until November 10. Malaika Arora and Ridhi Dogra are expected to join the unit soon. Following the London schedule, Fawad will return to Pakistan while the remaining team heads to Mumbai for an additional week of filming. Both the principal photography and musical sequences are being captured in London,” a source revealed.

Khan’s last Bollywood project was the 2016 film Ae Dil Hai Mushkil.

Fawad Stays Tight-Lipped on Details

When Bollywood Hungama questioned him about upcoming projects, Khan responded with characteristic charm but little detail: “Baatein ho rahi hoti hain. Again, kuch concrete hoga toh main zaroor aapko bataunga, aapke saath share karunga. Kis tarah main chhupa sakta hoon?”

Sources indicate that the makers deliberately chose Vaani Kapoor for her ability to maintain freshness despite working in major films. “Vaani has been part of big films, and she was the perfect choice for this project, given how she has protected herself from being over-exposed. The makers wanted incredibly fresh casting where Fawad falls in love with a gorgeous Indian girl, and Vaani fit right in,” the source added.

Fawad’s Packed Schedule

Beyond his Bollywood return, Khan recently appeared in Pakistan’s highest-grossing film The Legend of Maula Jatt, along with Money Back Guarantee and the international series Ms. Marvel.

His upcoming slate includes ZEE5 and Zindagi’s Barzakh (released July 19), Shandur reportedly for SonyLIV, Pakistan’s first Netflix project Jo Bachay Hain Sang Samait Lo, and Neelofar, which he’s producing and starring in alongside Mahira Khan.
