Mumbai — Bollywood veteran Govinda, 60, is recovering in a Mumbai hospital after accidentally shooting himself in the leg early this morning. The incident occurred at his Juhu residence as he was preparing to travel to Kolkata for a scheduled performance.
The Incident
According to his manager Shashi Sinha, the actor was about to leave for a 6 am flight when his licensed firearm accidentally discharged. “Govinda ji was about to leave his home when this unfortunate incident took place,” Sinha explained, adding that it was fortunate the injury wasn’t more serious.
Sources indicate the gun fell while Govinda was attempting to secure it in a cupboard, causing it to fire and lodge a bullet beneath his knee.

Govinda was rushed to Criticare Hospital where he underwent approximately one hour of surgery to remove the bullet. Dr. Ramesh Agarwal, who led the medical team, confirmed the actor’s condition is stable.
Recovery Timeline:
Hospital stay: 3-4 days expected
Full recovery: About one month of rest required
Current status: Stable and in good spirits

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde personally contacted the actor to express concern. “I have contacted Govinda to express my sincere concern for his well-being. On behalf of the government and the people of our state, I wish him a swift and complete recovery,” the CM stated, assuring any necessary support would be provided.
