Engineer Muhammad Ali Mirza, a prominent religious scholar and YouTuber, has been arrested in Jhelum following accusations of making blasphemous statements in an online video.
Legal Charges Filed
Police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Mirza at the City Police Station in Jhelum, based on a complaint filed by Humair Ali Qadri. The case involves serious charges under:
- Section 295-C of the Pakistan Penal Code (blasphemy-related offenses)
- The Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act 2016 (cybercrime provisions)
Arrest and Detention
Mirza was taken into custody on Monday night under Section 3 of the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) Act, which permits detention to preserve public safety. The arrest was carried out on direct orders from the Jhelum Deputy Commissioner and represents part of administrative measures to maintain order in the district.
Following his arrest, Mirza was immediately transferred to jail.
