MOHIT SURI ON COUSIN ALIA BHATT: “SHE’S MY BIGGEST CHEERLEADER”
Director Mohit Suri is celebrating the blockbuster success of his film, Saiyaara, and he’s not shy about giving credit to the people who’ve supported him from the start. In a recent chat with NDTV, he spoke about the unwavering support he’s received from his family, particularly his cousin, Bollywood superstar Alia Bhatt.
A Bond Built on Trust and Prais
Suri reminisced about his long-standing relationship with Alia, highlighting her constant encouragement, even before she became a household name. He shared a fond memory from years ago when he was showing a remix video to his uncle, Mahesh Bhatt. While Mahesh Bhatt was skeptical, a young Alia, not yet an actress, immediately declared, “Oh! It’s damn good.” Suri noted, “She’s always been that cousin who is super supportive.”
Saiyaara was no different. Instead of attending a private screening, Alia chose to see the movie with a packed house, a gesture that deeply touched the director. “She actually went with the crowd and watched it in the theatre. Then she messaged me. She’s super supportive,” Suri said.
The Emotional Exchange That Moved a Director to Tears
Suri also spoke about the profound support of his uncle, Mahesh Bhatt, and the special connection he shares with producer Aditya Chopra. He revealed that Bhatt had sent a deeply emotional message to Chopra, thanking him for taking care of his son in the film industry.
“It was like a parent saying his son is moving into another world,” Suri explained. He described the conversation between the two as “golden” and one of the most emotional moments of his life. “Each of them giving credit to the other for me delivering this film. That was the most emotional and the most real conversation I have seen in my life actually,” he said.
With Saiyaara now the second highest-grossing film of the year, Suri has a story he’ll be telling his kids for years to come.
