“Cambodia Nominates Trump for Nobel Peace Prize After Brokering Thailand Ceasefire”

Cambodia has announced it will nominate President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize for his critical role in ending a deadly border conflict with Thailand. The dispute, which erupted late last month, lasted five days and resulted in at least 43 deaths and the displacement of over 300,000 people from both countries. Cambodia’s Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol publicly thanked Trump for his intervention, stating that without his diplomatic efforts, a resolution may not have been possible.

The conflict simmered until July 26, when Trump called Thailand’s Acting Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai, urging immediate peace and warning that the U.S. would halt trade talks until the fighting ceased. This call helped break the deadlock, and a ceasefire was formally agreed upon in Malaysia on July 28, ending the worst violence between the two nations in a decade.

Chanthol praised Trump not only for helping Cambodia but also for his broader peace efforts globally, which have included negotiating the Abraham Accords in the Middle East and mediating conflicts involving India and Pakistan. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt asserted that Trump’s involvement directly led to the ceasefire and called for him to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.

Additionally, Cambodia expressed gratitude for a reduction in U.S. tariffs on its goods, from an initially threatened 49% down to 19%, helping to protect its key manufacturing sector.

Trump’s nomination follows similar calls from Israel and Pakistan, continuing a pattern of international recognition for his peace-related diplomacy during his presidency. The Nobel Peace Prize will be awarded this December in Oslo, Norway.
